1. What is established

On Thursday, scores of delegates walked out as Benjamin Netanyahu took the rostrum at the UN General Assembly, leaving a majority of seats empty, according to AP and RTÉ. The Palestinian mission had urged member states to leave together. Others stayed, and some stood and applauded, CNN reported. The Iranian delegation was absent. Netanyahu opened by inviting any remaining "moral cowards" to leave. No official count of absent delegations has been published.

2. The claimed list, to be confirmed

• Middle East and Asia: Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, North Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia

• Africa: Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Somalia, DR Congo, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, and much of the rest of the continent

• Latin America: Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Cuba

• Europe: Ireland, Spain and several Balkan states

This list has not been confirmed. The map carries no date, no source and no method.

Two reasons for caution. First, it closely matches the count Israeli officials published in September 2025, which listed 77 delegations absent or walking out, and which itself mixed protests with simple absences: Egypt and Jordan, for example, did not take their seats but did not join the walkout. Second, it shows Colombia in red, although Bogotá's new government, in office since 7 August, has restored ties with Israel and pledged to withdraw from South Africa's genocide case, the Algemeiner reported in July.

3. The countries with the deepest disputes

If confirmed, the list would include Israel's sharpest critics. South Africa filed the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in December 2023. Ireland and Spain both moved to intervene in that case in 2024. Iran is at war with Israel. Netanyahu also singled out Turkey and Qatar in his speech; Israel struck Hamas negotiators in Doha in September 2025.
